A couple hundred residents turned out early for Riverdale’s first After Work Cool Down event of the summer.
RIVERDALE — April Ringer slowly guided her niece, Mariah Ringer, 3, through the water fountain at the Amphitheater at the Riverdale Town Center.
“The kids love it,” she said. “She’s kind of scared of water.”
Ringer joined other Riverdale residents who took part in Thursday’s “After Work Cool Down” music series presented by the city’s Cultural Affairs and Leisure Services Department.
The event are free and feature popular local artists such as keyboardist William Green and singer/song writer Kipper Jones. They are held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. the fourth Thursday each month during the summer.
Riverdale also hosts the South City Concert Series with concert dates set June 15 and July 20 at the Amphitheater, 7200 Church St. in Riverdale.
The live concerts are the biggest draw, said Riverdale Fire Services Chief Bruce Still.
Still said he attends the events either on duty or off and sees some 2,000 people turn out for the music and food vendors at Riverdale Town Center.
A slate of acts for the music and concert series are available at www.riverdaleculture.com along with other city-sponsored summer events.
