Every Christian has the joy of knowing he or she is going to heaven when they die.
You may ask, how do they know this, and can one really be sure of this hope of eternal life? The Holy Bible, which is the word of God, tells us this great promise is not only true but will definitely come to pass.
Consider these passages: John 3: 16, which is probably the most well-known promise of God most people are familiar with — “For God so loved the world (meaning you and me) that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We also know that to claim this promise we must repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ who is the Son of God. Romans 10: 9, 10 tells us: “That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (saved from hell to heaven). For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
We also should look to another verse that tells us this truth: Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For it is by grace (the love of God) you have been saved, through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works (nothing we have done), so that no one can boast.”
According to these verses we must have faith, which is belief in God through His Son Jesus Christ. We must also believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, that Jesus died on the cross and God raised Him up or back to life on the third day.
This means that Jesus Christ is not dead but is alive forevermore just as we who believe in Him will have eternal life. To me this is an exciting hope to share with others, because eternal life is available to all who will believe and receive it. It is free. The gift of God. This is an awesome, even fantastic gift. Who would ever turn it down? I cannot see how anyone in their right frame of mind could ever turn this offer down.
I witness to a large number of young men and women each week and praise God, most of them choose to accept this great love of God and pray to receive Jesus Christ as their savior.
Some, however, decide for some reason to turn this great offer down. They perhaps have been reared in a home where God is not honored and in a community where few believe in God at all. Some have been taught that there is no God and this life is all there is and when it’s over, there is nothing else — no life after death.
I feel so sorry for them and pray God will convict their heart of their sin and they will repent and ask God to save them. We always think, well, we have planted some seed and pray they will later change their mind.
I pray that you, the readers of this article will be sure you and your families are saved and will not only have an abundant life here on earth but also have eternal life with God in heaven.
Have you recently shared with someone how to receive eternal life? I pray you will.
