Low turnout so far in Riverdale council elections

Incumbent Riverdale councilwoman Wanda Wallace challenged by Claude D. Tate

RIVERDALE – Few people have cast ballots in the Riverdale city council election, but the number is increasing slightly each day.

City Clerk Stephanie Thomas is the elections superintendent. She said the city precinct has seen about 12 voters a day this week in advance voting with approximately 100 absentee ballots received as of Thursday. But those numbers are expected to increase.

Voters will determine who will occupy the council seat in Riverdale’s Ward 3. The election is between incumbent councilwoman Wanda Wallace and challenger Claude D. Tate.

Polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the City Hall Annex, 6690 Church St.

Thomas expects that, of the town’s roughly 9,200 registered voters, less than 5 percent will cast ballots. She said voter turnout is typically low in the city’s council elections.

She said absentee ballots will be accepted through election day. For an absentee ballot application, contact Thomas by phone at 770-909-5385, by fax at 770-909-8854 or by mail at 7200 Church St., Riverdale, GA 30296.

The results of Tuesday’s election will be posted on the front door of the City Hall Annex and on the city’s website at www.riverdalega.gov.
