Thanksgiving meal donations sought to feed Clayton County homeless children

JONESBORO — Clayton County Solicitor General’s Office has partnered with several organizations to collect food to feed homeless children.

The office, with Alpha Kappa Alpha, Psi Alpha Omega and National Organization of Black Law Enforcement, plans to feed 25 families at Thanksgiving. The drive targets a small portion of the some 2,000 Clayton County students who are homeless.

Officials estimate the cost to fund dry goods for one holiday meal to be about $22. Items sought include cans of collards or turnips, yams, green beans, cranberry sauce, chicken broth and other vegetables; packages of stuffing mix, instant potatoes and dry beans; boxes of cake mix, rice and macaroni and cheese, and a can of cake frosting.

Donations of any or all of the items can be dropped off at the Clayton County Solicitor General’s Office at the county courthouse during regular business hours during the week.
