JONESBORO — Looking for that perfect Christmas gift? The Clayton County Humane Society may have it for you.

The Humane Society is planning to hold a Christmas yard sale and open house Nov. 23 at its Two By Two Thrift Store, 150 North McDonough St. in Jonesboro. Yard sale organizer Gwen Lyle said it will contain holiday-related items held over from the Humane Society’s fall Treasures For Paws Yard Sale in October.

The store, meanwhile, has an array of like-new holiday items, such as wreaths, ornaments, jewelry, dolls, china figurines and crystal home decor, which Lyle said would make ideal Christmas gifts.

“We’re hoping folks will stop by for the yard sale and then come inside the shop and look around,” she said.

The timing of the yard sale and open house coincides with the Jonesboro Christmas bazaar and parade which is being held the same day on Main Street. Visitors coming into town for those events can stop by the thrift store from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and shop. The city’s bazaar opens at noon and its Christmas parade is at 4:30 p.m.

The thrift store sells a nicer quality of items than one might find at one of the Humane Society’s yard sales. Among the items available at the store are rugs, throw pillows, canvas artwork, furniture, lamps, collectibles and antiques that are in good condition. Some are items donated by area stores for sale in the shop, and some are used items that look like they might be new.

Lyle said most items sell for $5 to $30, but some of the larger furniture items go for much higher prices.

Thrift store donations needed

While the Humane Society has a full house of Christmas items for sale, Lyle said the store needs to build up its inventory for the post-Christmas sales. As a result, they need people to donate items.

“We are short on items to put in the shop,” Lyle said. “Even though we have a lot of Christmas items, we really don’t have much to replace it with.”

Lyle said donations to the store are tax-deductible, and proceeds from sales at the store benefit the Humane Society’s shelter in Jonesboro. She said anyone interested in making a donation should contact Humane Society officials by email at 2by2thirft@gmail.com.
