‘Hunger Games’ locations tour details released

Clayton County International Park a stop on the tour

JONESBORO — Fans hungry to see the places where “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” was filmed won’t have to wait anymore.

Clayton County Film Office officials released details about tours of the movie’s filming locations this week, including how fans of the popular book trilogy and the films based upon them can sign up. The tours will kick off this weekend with a sneak preview for VIPs.

Once the regular tours begin Dec. 14, visitors will be taken to different sites around metro Atlanta, including Clayton County International Park.

“Officials from Hunger Games Unofficial Fan Tours have confirmed that fans from all over the globe have pre-purchased tickets and will descend upon the county for the sold-out VIP weekend tour on Sunday,” a statement from the film office said.

“Fans will have the opportunity to re-enact some of their favorite scenes and will be granted exclusive access to a vantage point for an unbelievable photo opportunity,” the statement continued.

Hunger Games Unofficial Fan Tours began accepting reservations for the tours at its website, www.hungergamesunofficialfantours.com, Friday as the first droves of fans flocked to theaters for the opening weekend of “Catching Fire.”

The tours will begin at Atlanta Movie Tours’ office, 327 Nelson St., in Atlanta. The tours cost $94 per person, according to the tour website.

The Beach at Clayton County International Park was used to film water scenes surrounding the cornucopia for the 75th annual Hunger Games in the movie. Visitors will be able to make “volcanic rock” like the ones used in the water set, according to the tour website. They will also receive archery lessons and play archery tag.

There is also adventure weekend tours available for $599. Those tours, according to the website, include a stay at the W Hotel Midtown, survival training, a gala banquet, game simulation, hair and makeup workshops, workshops, tours of filming locations and a game of archery tag.
