JONESBORO — Thanksgiving may be looming, but Clayton County commission Chairman Jeff Turner doesn’t plan to talk turkey when he meets with residents to discuss the upcoming special purpose local option sales tax vote next week.
Turner will host a SPLOST public information meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at New Covenant Baptist Church’s Prevention Plus Inc., 5881 Phillips Drive, in Forest Park. The focus of the meeting is to discuss the proposed 2015 SPLOST and give residents a chance to become educated on what the county has built with the tax funds in the past.
The upcoming SPLOST is a shared tax, which means the county will split the proceeds with its seven cities. A SPLOST committee has been formed to develop a project list for the tax, which is expected to go before voters next fall.
In the meantime, more public information meetings are likely to be on the horizon. Morrow officials have already announced they will have their own SPLOST public meeting as part of their Dec. 10 city council meeting.
