Clayton County police find cache of drugs in Riverdale apartment

RIVERDALE — Clayton County police arrested at least one person after finding a variety of illegal drugs inside a Riverdale apartment Tuesday.

Georgia Ann Wood, 64, is in Clayton County Jail on multiple charges of Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, according to the docket. A man was also charged but his information wasn’t immediately available.

Clayton County police Officer Gary Syblis said the Willow Way apartment was raided about 2 p.m. A responding officer said he talked to a man and a woman inside the apartment who were not on the lease and were living there illegally, Syblis said.

“As the officer spoke with the two subjects, he smelled an odor which was consistent with that of marijuana,” he said. “The Clayton County Police Narcotics Unit was contacted and the investigation was turned over to the unit.”

Syblis said officers found enough probable cause to get a search warrant for the apartment.

Inside the apartment, officers found 152 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution, 29.3 grams of crack cocaine, 2.4 grams of powered cocaine and about 72 prescription pills. Officers also found a stolen handgun.
