JONESBORO — The Clayton County Board of Education is expected to take action on several major purchases at its Oct. 7 meeting.
The board reviewed the line items during its work session Monday.
Superintendent Luvenia Jackson is requesting the exercise of the fourth and final option year with Gregory, Doyle, Calhoun & Rogers and Fincher, Denmark & Williams for legal consulting services at an annual cost of about $805,000. The services will be paid with general fund dollars.
The school district’s technology department is requesting to enter into a contract with Norcross-based ProSys Inc. to provide desktop and notebook computers at an annual cost of roughly $17.6 million.
Officials said most of the district’s instructional equipment (about 85 percent) is out of warranty and the contract is part of plans to replace obsolete computers throughout the district. Most of the ProSys contract will be funded through the board’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds, while $50,000 will come from its general fund.
There is also a request to enter into a state contract with SHI International Corp. based in Somerset, N.J., to provide annual Microsoft support at a one-time cost of $66,099 from general funds.
The board is also expected to take action on funding the district’s 2014 high school graduations at the Georgia Dome May 27 through 28. Officials said the ceremony would cost an estimated $148,500.
The budget comprises $50,000 for rental of the Georgia Dome, $76,000 for technical equipment and $550 for field painting. The cost also accounts for services from Levy Restaurants at $10,000, print services for commencement programs at $7,000, security at $4,000 and floral arrangements at $500.
The work session also included a second reading of policy series L and M under review.
The inter-organizational relations policy changes included adding reference to the No Child Left Behind Act. There were no recommended changes to the relations with other education agencies policy.
The board meets Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Clayton County Public Schools Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave. in Jonesboro.
