RIVERDALE — Riverdale is going just one shade this month and it’s pink, pink, pink.
Corey Punzi, marketing and events specialist for the city, announced several events going on in October to bring awareness to breast cancer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The first event will be Friday. The city, Praise 102.5 and Majic 107.5 will hold Pretty in Pink, a luncheon for breast cancer survivors. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Chante Moore will be the special celebrity guest. She is a recording artist and reality television star.
“Ms. Moore will give words of encouragement and share her story on how she became associated with the fight against breast cancer,” said Punzi.
To nominate someone who is a breast cancer survivor to attend this event, log on to www.mypraiseatl.com or www.majicatl.com.
Ride for Breast Cancer Awareness will take place Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Punzi said more than 200 bikers will convene at Harley Davidson at Southlake in Morrow and ride 90 miles, ending at Riverdale Town Center on Church Street.
Punzi said there will be live music by DraKarr & An Experience, vendors, food and health and wellness screenings at the Town Center.
Speakers will also be on hand to talk about their personal experiences with beating cancer and how they triumphed over it.
On-site registration is $20 with proceeds going to benefit Pink Kick-Starter Project, a nonprofit organization that provides starter kits for women who have been diagnosed.
A ZUMBA event is planned Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Riverdale Town Center. Punzi said this year’s theme is Ultimate Pink Party. The event is free and will include door prizes and breast cancer education information.
“We are encouraging everyone to join us, bring a friend and wear pink,” he said.
