FOREST PARK — Forest Park Ministers Association will host a candidates forum Monday night at the recreation center.
Dr. Leon Beeler, founder and CEO of the association, addressed the issue at Monday’s city council meeting.
“We have a list of questions and will take them from the public on 3x5 index cards,” he said. “But we won’t take any anonymous questions. Also, if it’s not appropriate, we won’t take the question.”
Beeler said the forum will be conducted with the proper decorum.
“We’re not looking for public assassination,” he said. “We’re looking for information. It will be done decently and all in order.”
There are 11 candidates running for three seats in Forest Park.
In the mayor’s race, the candidates are Sparkle Adams, Mike Gippert and incumbent David Lockhart. Adams is former Ward 1 representative and former mayor pro tem. Gippert retired from his position as public works director in May.
In Ward 1, the candidates are Kimberly James, Darnell Moorer and incumbent Tommy Smith. James has run unsuccessfully for council previously. Moorer is the former elections superintendent who was fired for being “too political.” Smith took office in a March special election, beating James, after Adams resigned to run for mayor.
In Ward 2, the candidates are Dabouze Antoine, Carl Evans, Luke Gawel, Sheena Lowe and Deverick Williams.
There is no incumbent in Ward 2. The seat has been empty since council members ousted Karen-Brandee Williams in July 2011 for ethics violations.
The forum, set for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., is open to the public. The recreation center fronts Starr Park at 745 Forest Parkway.
