JONESBORO — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a police-involved shooting that left a man dead alongside I-75.
Police said the shooting happened about 8 a.m. south of Old Dixie Highway and the incident shut down traffic for several hours while officers investigated.
Police said an officer on his way to work saw what he believed to be a crime in progress so he stopped. The officer and suspect struggled after the man reportedly tried to run from the area. During the struggle, police said, the officer believed the man was trying to get his gun and it discharged.
The names of the officer and alleged suspect have not been released.
It is standard operating procedure for GBI to investigate officer-involved shootings.
