Lovejoy has several events on tap this fall

LOVEJOY — Several upcoming events are on tap for the city of Lovejoy.

Officials plan to host an AARP Driver Safety Program class Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., at the Lovejoy Community Center. The center is at 11622 Hastings Bridge Road.

The class is open to all licensed or permitted drivers at $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. To reserve a seat in the class, call Beverly Suddeth at 770-617-5876.

State Rep. Demetrius Douglas (D-Stockbridge) will host an Affordable Care Act town hall meeting from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Lovejoy High School, 1587 McDonough Road.

The city is organizing an Oct. 30 town hall meeting about the 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum on the November ballot. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the community center beginning at 6 p.m.

Sacred Praise United Methodist Church will host a city-wide Trunk O’ Treat event Oct. 31, from dusk until 9 p.m., in the center’s parking lot.

The city also will host a women’s self-defense class Nov. 2 at the center, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.

On Nov. 8, the city will hold a “movie night” at the center. It begins at 6:30 p.m.

And for Veterans Day weekend, the city has planned a 9 a.m. senior breakfast for Nov. 9 at the center.
