RIVERDALE — Advance voting is underway to determine who will occupy the City Council seat in Riverdale’s Ward 3.
The municipal election is Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Hall Annex, 6690 Church St. The contest is between incumbent councilwoman Wanda Wallace and challenger Claude D. Tate.
City Clerk Stephanie Thomas is the elections superintendent. She expects that, of the town’s roughly 9,200 registered voters, less than 5 percent will cast ballots.
Thomas said that historically municipal elections have low voter turnouts in the 4.5-square-mile city.
“We really want to see all 9,200 voters to come out,” she said. “Local government has the greatest impact on local voters. They need to be a part of this process.”
Thomas said absentee ballots are being accepted through election day. For an absentee ballot application, contact Thomas by phone at 770-909-5385, by fax at 770-909-8854 or by mail at 7200 Church St., Riverdale, GA 30296.
Voters are required to have a form of identification when they vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a valid U.S. passport ID, a valid military photo ID, a valid government employee photo ID and any valid state or federal government-issued photo ID, such as the free voter ID card issued by the county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Find specifics about acceptable forms of ID, by visiting the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.georgia.gov.
The results of Tuesday’s election will be posted on the front door of the City Hall Annex and on the city’s website at www.riverdalega.gov.
