Clayton County BBQ contest postponed because of rain

No new date has been set

JONESBORO — Clayton County residents won’t be high on the hog over barbecue today.

The Lake Spivey Road Race BBQ competition, which was scheduled to take place this afternoon at Clayton County International Park, has been “postponed until further notice,” according to an announcement on the county’s website. No official reason for the postponement was given, but there’s a good chance Mother Nature is to blame.

Weather forecasts call for an 80 percent chance of precipitation today, according to weather.com. And that’ll be rainwater falling, not BBQ sauce.

The road race itself is still scheduled to take place Saturday after the bad weather is expected to retreat from the area. weather.com predicts a zero percent chance of rainfall.

The contest and the race are fundraisers for the Kids Outdoors Initiative and Southern Regional Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

County officials are asking residents to watch claytoncountyga.gov closely for news about when the contest will be rescheduled.
