Extension service wants residents to walk off fat

JONESBORO — The University of Georgia’s Clayton County Extension Office wants residents to get physical this month.

The statewide UGA cooperative extension service’s local offices are promoting its free Walk Georgia program, which has an open registration period until Oct. 9. The goals are to get residents to begin exercising regularly, to develop healthy habits and become healthier and more physically fit.

One of the key ways residents can get more fit is by walking. Participants can log the distance they’ve walked on the www.walkgeorgia.org website, and they will virtually “travel” across the state with every little bit they’ve walked. As they “travel” across the state, facts about different Georgia sites will be revealed to them. Registration is also done on the website.

Residents can log the distance they’ve walked until Dec. 4, but the cut-off to track other activities is Nov. 23.
