Arts Clayton good for Clayton County

Arts Clayton is a great asset to Clayton County.

Events at the gallery and Arts Clayton facilities range from premier showings of fine art, to creative activities for children.

While it seems that many people in communities just wait on government to do everything for them to make the community a better place to live or provide activities for youths, Arts Clayton has rallied volunteers, benefactors, staff and community resources to make things happen.

And the thing they are making happen on a daily basis improve the quality of life for all our residents.

The stated mission of Arts Clayton is to “enrich lives through the arts.”

That is exactly what they are doing.

According the organization’s own published history Arts Clayton was, “Founded in 1986 … Arts Clayton celebrates 25 years of successful community services and programs. Achieving this milestone, we are poised to undertake a series of critical actions that will secure our future and expand our potential far beyond its original vision. An enormous change (and one the forces propelling these new directions and commitments) is the purchase of the beautifully restored historic building where Arts Clayton’s Administration and Gallery are located. Purchasing the building created a financial obligation, but also positioned Arts Clayton for state and regional leadership while serving the residents of Clayton County with a comprehensive arts focus.”

While people, or organizations, that take a high profile are often the objects of criticism, you don’t really hear people say negative things about Arts Clayton.

They are respected by a cross-section of the community and their artistic offerings are diverse.

Their ArtVan, mobile learning project, provides reading enrichment to children in the schools, and the Art Camps encourages creativity by utilizing the visual and performing arts.

The Arts Clayton Gallery may be best known in the community for the dramatic street mural on the side of its building.

They are known far and wide for showcasing both established and emerging artists.

A great community partner and a great resource for Clayton County families, their work is made possible by their membership, the tourism authority, generous patrons, the Georgia Council through the Arts and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, with only modest funding coming from local government.

Arts Clayton is a Clayton County success story.
