LOVEJOY — Who says you have to wait until Veterans Day to recognize the contributions of former military service men and women?
State Sen. Gail Davenport (D-Jonesboro) certainly isn’t waiting for Nov. 11 to roll around. She announced Wednesday that she will hold a “Veterans Family Appreciation Day” Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at the South Clayton Recreation Center, 1837 McDonough Road in Hampton.
Veterans are asked to “show your colors” at the event by wearing hats, pins, jackets, patches and any other items they have which shows off which branch of the military they serve in. The event is open to the public, but former members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard will be treated as the guests of honor.
The event will include food, entertainment, veterans resource assistance and veterans counseling.
State Sen. Ed Harbison (D-Columbus) will be the guest speaker. Harbison is the chairman of the Senate’s Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committee. He served in the Marine Corps for four years.
