JONEBSORO — Lake City Elementary is the most improved school in Clayton County, according to a new state accountability measure.
Officials reported this week that half the school district’s campuses did not make gains in the College and Career Ready Performance Index scores from 2012 to 2013.
However, Lake City Elementary was among the 32 schools that did see over-the-year improvement on the accountability measure, known as the CCRPI.
CCRPI replaces the Adequate Yearly Progress measurement that was based upon the federal No Child Left Behind Act. It measures schools on a 100-point scale to help the public better understand how schools are performing.
Officials said the district as a whole reported an improvement of 1.2 points over 2012 with elementary schools leading the way with an improvement of 4.7.
The half that showed improvement include 19 elementary schools, seven middle schools and four high schools. The rates of improvement ranged from 0.4 points at Sequoyah Middle to 21.5 points at Lake City Elementary.
Lake City Elementary earned the top CCRPI score among elementary schools in the district with 92.1 out of a possible 100, compared to 70.6 in 2012, according to the state’s score data.
Elite Scholars Academy also earned the district’s top scores at both the middle school and high school levels with 93.7 and 88 respectively.
Data indicated the district’s poorest-performing scores included Drew High with 52.5, Pointe South Middle with 55.8 and Northcutt Elementary with 51.2.
Superintendent Luvenia Jackson said the district is on-track despite the struggles of some schools.
“While we are encouraged by the district’s performance as exhibited through the CCRPI measures, we are aware that there is still work to be done in understanding the measure’s indicators and how we as a district can continue to improve,” said Jackson.
