Clayton County police investigating drowning death of boy, 4, in Jonesboro

JONESBORO —Clayton County police are investigating the apparent drowning death of a 4-year-old boy Wednesday evening.

Officer Ashanti Marbury said the child fell into a pool on Winding Way Lane in Jonesboro. Several Clayton County police officers, Clayton County sheriff’s deputies and a Jonesboro police officer responded to the location and immediately entered the pool to begin searching for the child, said Marbury.

After an intense search, the child was located in the swimming pool and removed.

Just as officers removed the child from the pool, Clayton County’s EMS arrived and immediately

began resuscitation efforts. The child was transported to an area hospital by Clayton County’s EMS where

he was pronounced dead by a doctor.

The Clayton County police were told that the child and his family were visiting family from out of state when this tragedy occurred.

The drowning appears to be accidental in nature, said police.

However, the Clayton County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the details surrounding this incident.
