Retired educators group to meet Aug. 19

JONESBORO — The Clayton County Retired Educators Association will hold its first meeting of the school year Aug. 19.

The meeting begins at 11 a.m. in the Christian Activities Building Fellowship Hall at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, 142 South Main St.

Entertainment will be provided by “Eternity” from Providence United Methodist Church. A $7 lunch is being offered following the business meeting.

All retired Clayton County educators or those who once taught in the county who are now retired are invited to attend.

Morrow resident earns scholarship for medical school

Marcqwon Day of Morrow was awarded a scholarship from United Health Foundation’s Diverse Scholars Initiative and is pursuing a medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Military notes

Air Force Airman Eric Webb has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. Webb is the son of Eric Webb of Atlanta and Toni Webb of Hampton, the grandson of Maxine Harper of Jonesboro and the nephew of Cherry Watkins of Riverdale, Gwen Smith of McDonough and Ronald Watkins of Jonesboro. He graduated in 2013 from Lovejoy High.
