Lake City police looking for suspect in the first homicide there in about 18 years

LAKE CITY — Police are looking for a suspect in the shooting death late Sunday night of a man sitting on his front stoop listening to music.

Chief David Colwell said the man, 22, was shot multiple times from someone who approached him from behind at Rainwood Apartments. The man was later identified as Kadarius Deshawn Bailey.

Colwell said the shooter fled on foot.

Witnesses told police the suspect is a black male, about 6 feet tall, thin and wearing a ski mask.

The police department in the small town on Ga. 54 between Morrow and Forest Park hasn’t worked a homicide in about 18 years, he said. They are getting help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

“We’ve been very fortunate to not have any murders,” said Colwell.

The body has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy.
