Clayton State women’s basketball team captured its eighth straight win in a row with an 83-66 victory over Montevallo at the Athletics Center.

With the win, Clayton State improves to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the Peach Belt Conference heading into the week.

Andrea Benford led the Lakers in the victory, scoring a career-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds. She hit 10 of 14 shots from the field. Guard Tiayra Green, a Riverdale native, added 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Guard Bena Hanyard had an all-around good game with 13 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Shacamra Jackson chipped in 10 points for the team.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader with the men’s team, No. 9 Montevallo defeated the Lakers 75-63 in a game that went back and forth in the first half.

Clayton State was lead by Charles Shedrick’s career-high 31 points in the game, hitting 11 of 23 from the floor. Forward Omari Murray added 13 points and nine boards for the team.
