RIVERDALE — City officials want residents to be as healthy as they can be and are willing to put resources behind that philosophy with a free health expo Saturday.
Spokesman Corey Punzi said Riverdale’s 2014 initiative focuses on monthly health awareness programs.
“Each month on the first Thursday, the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Leisure Services will execute a health awareness initiative based on that month’s national awareness platform,” said Punzi. “For example, January was National Birth Defects and Mental Wellness month.”
The city kicks off Recharge, Refresh and Renew You — Health and Wellness Expo Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverdale Town Center at 7210 Church St.
This expo will consist of a variety of vendors and exhibitors that teach all aspects of health, wellness, fitness and lifestyle improvements, said Punzi. Topics can include such things as skin care, chiropractic, diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, fitness and hospitals.
Vendor participants include Southern Regional Medical Center, Piedmont Fayette, Kaiser Permanente, Walgreens, Arden’s Gardens and celebrity trainer DaShaun “Guru of Abs” Johnson.
In addition to four hours of health screenings, the expo will feature 20-minute fitness demonstrations, professional question and answer sessions lasting 20-30 minutes each and a 15-20 minute healthy cooking demonstration.
