STOCKBRIDGE — The deadline to enroll in the Affordable Care Act is fast approaching.
In an effort to ensure everyone is signed up by the March 31 deadline, All Nations Life and Praise Church is hosting a sign up March 4, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
On hand to help citizens sign up will be Certified Navigators.
“Certified Navigators have been trained and licensed by Health and Humans Services under the federal government to help people choose what plan they can afford and what plan is right for them,” said Pamela Cooper, community program manager at Morehouse School of Medicine.
Cooper said the navigators are like personal counselors to help people pick what’s best for them.
“This is much better for people who don’t understand insurance than trying to do it on their own,” she said.
Keith Brooks, pastor at All Nations church initiated the sign up with Cooper.
“I want to be able to do all I can in the community both spiritually and civically,” Brooks said. “Churches use to be the meeting place of the community.”
Cooper said there will be six to eight navigators at the church to help people sign up.
Residents should bring a photo ID and proof of income. Cooper said that could be either a W-2 form or paycheck stub. Residents are also asked to have a valid email address. However, navigators will assist people in setting one up if they don’t have an email account.
“It just goes a lot faster if residents already have an email address,” Cooper said.
Cooper estimates from start to finish, those signing up should plan to spend about an hour and 15 minutes to complete the process.
“This is going to be really great to have somebody on hand to help people sign up,” Brooks said. “I’m excited.”
Residents can expect to answer questions about current employment and income information. They’ll also be required to provide a social security number, current address and any additional income.
“Everybody has to be insured and this is a great way to get it done,” Cooper said.
All Nations Life and Praise Church is at 3060 Ga. Highway 155 in Stockbridge. All residents are invited to attend. For more information, call 404-752-1975.
