FOREST PARK — Celebrations got off to a busy start at the new Roses Express in Forest Park Friday.

Shoppers streamed in to hear from Forest Park and Clayton County officials including Mayor Pro-tem Maudie McCord, Board of Commissioners Chairman Jeff Turner, Chamber of Commerce President Yulonda Beauford and Rep. Valencia Stovall.

“We are savvy consumers here in Clayton County, we like good bargains,” Beauford said.

Beauford said the store immediately began integrating themselves in the community by joining the chamber.

“You fit right in here in Clayton County,” she sad.

Turner also took time to welcome Roses to Forest Park.

“Good things are happening in Clayton County,” Turner said. “Your (Roses) success is our success.”

The store employs 30 residents who spent several weeks putting it together.

“We built it from the ground up,” said employee Joan Camp. “I love it here.”

Twyla Henry started shopping at Roses two weeks ago at the store’s soft opening.

“I can come in here and got some good bargains and I don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to do it.”

Roses, a division of Variety Wholesalers Inc. based in Henderson, N.C., has 112 stores across the country including locations in Griffin and McDonough.

Wilson Sawyer, CEO of Variety Wholesalers, said coming to Forest Park has been a great experience and that the city made it easy to open Roses.

“We’re a neighborhood store and we’re here to serve you,” Sawyer said. “We think there’s real opportunity here.”

Roses is located at 4851 Jonesboro Road, in Forest Park.
