ELLENWOOD — One member of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation is inviting her constituents to join her at the state Capitol later this month for a week of events designed to highlight their community.
State Rep. Valencia Stovall (D-Ellenwood) has announced Jan. 27-Jan. 31 will be “District 74 Week” at the Capitol. District 74 is the official name of the district Stovall represents in the Georgia House of Representatives. It includes portions of Forest Park, Lake City, Morrow, Riverdale and College Park.
Each day of the week will have a different theme. The themes are Ministerial Day, School Choice Day (Jan. 28), Family and Friends Day (Jan. 29), Education Leadership Day (Jan. 30) and Business and Community Day (Jan. 31).
Many of the programs that week will take place in the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, which also referred to as CLOB. It is across the street from the Capitol at 18 Capitol Square, in Atlanta. There are, however, some activities schedule to take place at the Capitol, 206 Washington St.
In recognition of those themes, Stovall will hold daily programs at the Capitol. The Ministerial Day program will be held Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. in CLOB room 514. School Choice Day will include a 10 a.m. rally Jan. 28 on the Capitol steps with participants asked to meet in the second floor atrium. Family and Friends Day will be observed Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m., in CLOB room 307. The Education Leadership Day program will take place Jan. 30 at 9:30 a.m. in CLOB room 514. The Business and Community Day program is scheduled for Jan. 31, at 9:30 a.m. in CLOB room 514.
Residents can also have lunch with Stovall that week, as part of the programs, but they are asked to RSVP in advance so her staff can plan to have enough food. They can RSVP by calling 404-656-0314, by logging onto her website, www.gostovall.com, or by sending an email to email@example.com.
Constituents who tweet the hashtag #RepStovallDist74 on Twitter will also be eligible to win prizes throughout that week.
And since the legislature will have begun its work for 2014 by the time District 74 Week rolls around, attendees may have a chance to watch the Georgia General Assembly in action from the third floor galleries in each chamber.
