Clayton government shut down till Thursday

— Clayton News Daily offices closed at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday due to worsening winter weather offices.

County government officials announced all government offices closed at 1 p.m. today because of the winter weather. They are not scheduled to reopen until 8 a.m. Thursday.

"The National Weather Service is indicating the possibility of difficulty in traveling as early as late this afternoon," county officials said in an email blast sent out just before offices closed. "In an effort to be pro-active and to ensure the safety of all of our employees, please be advised that Clayton County government will close today at 1:00 p.m."

Officials are warning residents to be wary of ice on the roads as hard freezes are expected tonight and Wednesday night. They are also encouraging residents to tune into the county's cable access channel, Comcast Channel 23, for updates on the situation in the county.

College Park officials announced they will close city offices at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Clayton County schools were closed Tuesday because of the weather, but no decision about Wednesday has been announced at this time.

Clayton State University closed at noon today, and announced that students and staff should stay tuned to www.clayton.edu for updates about the status of classes and campus offices for Wednesday.
