JONESBORO — Residents across the Southern Crescent will have plenty to do outdoors this Fourth of July.
Clayton County Water Authority’s recreation areas and Newman Wetlands Center will be open for the holiday weekend.
The Blalock and Shamrock Reservoirs, at 2610 Shamrock Road off Freeman Road in Jonesboro, and the J. W. Smith Reservoir, at 143 Northbridge Road in Hampton, will all be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
There is a $5 daily fee per vehicle for Clayton County residents at all authority reservoirs. Non-residents pay $10 per vehicle. A season pass is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents and is good through October.
The Newman Wetlands Center, at 2755 Freeman Road, features a nature trail and picnic areas that will be open all three days from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The center features a half-mile nature trail and picnic areas amid the wetlands habitats for more than 130 bird species, beaver, river otter, fox, raccoon, muskrat, deer, wild turkey, opossum, mink and many species of reptiles, insects and amphibians.
Authority officials said the Interpretive Center will be open for visitors Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Dogs and other pets are not allowed at this facility.

4th of July Weekend at The Beach
Clayton County Parks and Recreation will host it annual July 4 celebration at The Beach at Clayton County International Park Friday and Saturday.
The Contagious Band will perform Friday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and a fireworks show will kick off at dusk. The Point Black and Hit City bands will perform Saturday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Admission each day will be $10 per person.
4th of July Parade and Race in Jonesboro
The City of Jonesboro is having a Red, White, Blue and You 5k starting at 9 a.m. July 4. The race begins and ends at Tanama, 253 N. Main Street. Registration is $10. All proceeds will go to Wounded Warrior Project.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. down Main Street and will be followed by a barbecue at the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge on McDonough Street. For more information, or to register for the race call Tina Hughes at 770-603-2997.
