George Michael Long
George Michael Long, age 66, of LaFayette died Monday, July 07, 2014.
He was born in Memphis Tennessee in 1948. Michael and his family moved to Forest Park Georgia where he attended the East Clayton Elementary School. There he was top of his class. Michael Graduated from Forest Park High School in 1966. After graduating from high school he joined the Marines and served in the Vietnam War. After serving his country he became Chief of the Morrow Fire Department, at the time he was the youngest fire chief in the state of Georgia. Michael had the honor of excepting the key of the city of Forest Park by the Mayor in 1968. He and his wife later moved to Boone North Carolina where he served as the Main Jailer for the Watauga Sheriffs Dept. In the later part of his life he and his wife lived in LaFayette Georgia where he was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ezra and Leona Williamson; step-father, Vernon Craig; daughter, Keesha Long; brother, Alex Nash; and sister, Lisa Nash.
He is Survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Ellen Long, of LaFayette; Mother, Sara Williamson Watts, of Morrow, Ga.; Daughter and son-in-law, Amy (Tracey) Bass, of Pensacola, FL; One Son and daughter-in-law, Jacade (Rebecca) Long, of McDonough, Ga.; Two sisters and brother-in-laws Bonnie (Bob) Giers, of Waxhaw, N.C., and Priscilla (Garrett) Pourron, of Stockbridge, Ga.; One brother and sister-in-law, Gary (Sandra) Long, of Boone, N.C.; One granddaughter, Camille Long, and One Grandson, Sean Bass; 2 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial service from the Corinth Baptist Church Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. with the Rev. R.D. Wallin and Rev. John Shephard officiating.
