JONESBORO — The Atlanta Humane Society is coming to Clayton County to provide low cost spaying and neutering.
The Surgical Utility Vehicle will be at Clayton County Animal Control, 1396 Government Circle, Aug. 20-21. The service is $35 plus an additional $5 for extra pain medication. Only cash is accepted.
Microchips and rabies vaccinations will also be given, if needed.
Pet owners must make an appointment with Animal Control at 770-477-3509. Walk-ins will not be accepted. The deadline to register is Aug. 13.
The SUV can treat a maximum of 30 animals per day. Because of the high-volume and environment of the utility vehicle, the Humane Society’s web site specified the following animals are not eligible for services: pregnant, in heat or lactating animals; those 6 or older; trapped, feral or aggressive animals; pets in poor health or with pre-existing conditions; dogs weighing more than 65 pounds, and those with undescended testicles and brachycephalic breeds, for example, English bulldogs.
There is a limit of two animals per household that can be scheduled per event.
The SUV program began in 2010 to “assist in the fight against pet overpopulation in the state of Georgia by travelling outside of the metro Atlanta area to perform low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to under-served communities,” the site stated.
