Tribunal accepts suspension for teacher accused of excessive force against student

JONESBORO — An employee hearing tribunal accepted a recommendation to suspend a Babb Middle teacher five days without pay after finding he used unwarranted, excessive force against a student.

Wesley Hall and his attorney, Bourquaye Thomas, argued before the three-member panel in May that Hall was merely restraining an irate eighth-grader who had been in a verbal dispute with another pupil in the school hallway.

At one point, the teacher had the heated student restrained by the arms and held up against lockers, according to witness testimony.

Witnesses testified that the two ended up on the hallway floor but the student eventually complied with directions once a school administrator and school resource officer arrived on scene.

Officials reported neither the student nor Hall were injured during the incident.
