Arts Clayton Canvas and Corks caricature class set for May 30

JONESBORO — Arts Clayton Gallery officials are looking for people who are willing to draw exaggerated pictures of themselves.

The gallery will hold it’s monthly Canvas and Corks class May 30 at 6:30 p.m. The theme of the class will be drawing caricatures. The class costs $35 to sign up for.

“It will be an opportunity to learn how to draw something while also having some fun,” said Gallery Manager Teri Williamson.

The event is named Canvas and Corks because wine is served to participants while they make art in the class. As a result, it is not intended for anyone under 21.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines a caricature as “a drawing that makes someone look funny or foolish because some part of the person’s appearance is exaggerated.” Such drawings are commonly made by artists in public gathering spaces, such as town squares or carnivals.

The gallery can be found at 136 South Main St. in Jonesboro. Call 770-473-5488 to sign up for the class.
