JONESBORO — Clayton County’s annual party for senior citizens is set to return this week.
The Senior Services Department’s Mayfest celebration will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at The BEACH at Clayton County International Park, 2300 Ga. 138 in Jonesboro. The free event is intended for residents over 55 only and children are therefore barred from the party, according to a Senior Services statement.
T-shirts from the event can be purchased for $7.
Mayfest is organized to celebrate Older American’s Month and this year’s sponsors include Senior Services, Clayton County Parks and Recreation, Kaiser Permanente, JenCare and Coventry Health Care. Officials said this year’s event will include the traditional mix of health vendor booths, fitness class demonstrations, fitness dancing, give-a-ways and live entertainment.
A related competitive fitness walk will be held at 9 a.m. at the park.
More than 1,200 senior citizens attended Mayfest last year, according to stats put out by Senior Services.
Visit any senior center in the county, or call 770-347-0120, to inquire about buying a T-shirt for the event. Boxed lunches will be served to all participants.
