Several area players had superlative seasons that earned them all-county honors.
Here are the top players from this season:
Danyale Brimer, Lovejoy: The county pitcher of the year had a 4.-2 record with a 2.85 ERA against mostly Class AAAAAA competition. He also hit .370 with 27 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
Ricky Butts, Mundy’s Mill: A utility player for the Tigers, the senior had two wins in 28 innings with 21 strikeouts. At the plate, he hit .304 with 17 hits and 11 RBI.
Luis DeJesus, Lovejoy: A reliable player that was a starter and relief pitcher. In addition, he played shortstop and catcher. He had a 3-2 record with a 3.00 ERA with two saves.
D’Quon Matthews, Lovejoy: Playing multiple positions for the Wildcats, he had a 2-2 record with a 2.75 ERA and a save. He also had 13 RBI and five stolen bases.
Jose’ Martinez, Lovejoy: The shortstop hit .345 with a home run and 26 RBI and 21 stolen bases. Coach also says was standout on defesne.
Manny Martinez, Lovejoy: As a DH, he hit .345 with 26 RBI and two home runs. The junior also had two saves.
Demarcus Mays, Mundy’s Mill: A senior first baseman/third baseman hit .370 with 17 hits and 13 RBI. An all-region selection, he scored 12 runs.
Brandon Pearson, Drew: A senior catcher, he hit .317 with 12 runs and 19 hits. He signed a football scholarship with Div. I St. Augustine’s in North Carolina.
Demarcus Reid, Drew: The sophomore outfielder/first baseman played in 23 games, and batted .446 with 29 hits. He scored 19 runs and had 17 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
Kahari Richards, Drew: The sophomore outfielder hit .435 with 30 hits and nine RBI for the Titans. He also scored 22 runs and had 24 stolen bases.
Jordan Robinson, Mundy’s Mill: An all-region selection, the junior outfielder/shortstop hit .444 with 28 hits and 11 RBI. He also scored 25 runs and was 24 of 25 on stolen bases.
Rodney Smith, Mundy’s Mill: The Region 4-AAAAA Player of the Year led the county with a .587 batting average with 12 RBI and 37 hits as a lead-off batter. He also had 22 stolen bases.
Mason Williams, Drew: The sophomore infielder at Drew hit .333 with 22 hits and 14 RBI while scoring 17 runs for the Titans.
