MARTA: Let the people decide

Editorial

THOMAS: Obama, the arrogrant president

President Obama acts as if elections other than his own don’t matter. His attitude seems to be, “I have the power and the rest of government be damned.”

Oh, to return to Wimbledon and its ivy

So Wimbledon started this week, and I’ve gotta say I’m missing those hallowed grounds.

THOMAS: The difference between Republicans and Democrats

Republicans should promise that if voters allow them to regain control of all three branches of government, an outside auditor will be named to go through the federal government, recommending to Congress which agencies can be reduced in size or even eliminated. Congress would require itself to accept the auditor’s findings, as with the Defense Base Realignment and Closing Commission, which has been charged with increasing the Defense Department’s efficiency by the realignment and closure of unnecessary U.S. military installations.

EUGENE ROBINSON: The joy of the World Cup

The world’s game has taken center stage and had many surprises.

THOMAS: Iraq is on its own

Withdrawal from this war is a policy of surrender. What we need is a unified approach to fighting Islamic extremism by us and other allied nations. What we need is a policy that works.

ROBINSON: GOP overdosingon the tea party

The GOP has to decide whether it intends to participate responsibly in the enterprise of government or stand on the sidelines, shouting invective and throwing stones. One of which just hit the majority leader of the House of Representatives in the head.

THOMAS: When it comes to prisoner swapping, Israel is not America

How different will America be if we allow Islamic jihadists to have their way? While we practice tolerance, pluralism, diversity and freedom of religion, they practice the opposite. For them the war will not be over until they win it. For America, packing up and going home isn’t victory, it’s just quitting.

ROBINSON: Six points concerning Bergdahl

Bringing Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl home was the right thing to do, and President Obama did it in a mostly reasonable way.

THOMAS: Negotiating with terrorists

Radical Islamists are serious about killing in pursuit of their extreme objectives. Releasing their soldiers can only embolden them to take more Americans hostage. The deal for Sgt. Bergdahl may well turn out to have been a bargain with the devil.

THOMAS: The Rich List and the West’s culture of envy

The “Rich List” is fun to read, but the stories behind their wealth ought to be a lesson to people living in free societies. That lesson is that while not all can necessarily become as rich as these men and women, by adopting their work ethic they can improve their lives far beyond their current place on the economic ladder, to their benefit and to the benefit of their nation.

ROBINSON: GOP still swallowing the tea

Democrats must not let voters be fooled. Yes, tea party candidates are going down. But the tea party’s extremism and obstructionism live on.

Bigger decision likely awaits Clayton voters in November

MARTA referendum probable for general election

The primary election and the SPLOST referendum are behind us, but Clayton County must prepare for what is to come in November.

ROBINSON: Hillary Clinton gets the GOP treatment

Republican panic at the prospect of facing Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race has suddenly reached Godzilla-nearing-Tokyo proportions.
