Here is a perfect case where our city and county officers need to be patrolling our neighborhoods, parks and businesses instead of trying to make a quick buck on traffic violators. Don't get me wrong traffic safety is very important in any community. However, it appears that this county goes to the extreme when it comes to traffic enforcement in certain areas, where their manpower and enforcement skills are actually needed in the neighborhoods they are supposed to be protecting.
On a second note, if the City of Jonesboro paid $700.00 for a toilet, they should be investigated for their lack of good judgement and spending of the taxpayers money. Anybody can go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get a great toilet for under $200.00!!
This is great!! Made 11 arrests and issued 148 citations during the 3 day period. Congratulations, job well done.
But now I have to ask, what are they going to do, or what have they been doing the other 362 days of the year? Why can't there be a concentrated effort to arrest these people with warrants for them on a daily basis, with just as much emphasis and vigor?
And why so much concentration on speeders and equipment violations?
Wouldn't these county officers time been better spent patrolling our neighborhoods, making themselves more visible to the public? Leave the patrolling on state and federal highways to the State Patrol who do a much better job, and keep our officers in the subdivisions and business areas where they are best trained to patrol. These officers need to be involved directly with the community, not sitting on the interstate waiting for a speeder.
Only when the crime rate in this county drops to zero should any of our officers be concerned with traffic violators on state and federal highways. And I personally don't see that happening anytime soon for this county or any other county as far as that goes.
Look at the number of employers that are government. Department of Defense, US Air Marshall's, FBI, Customs and Border, FBI. TSA, Department of Veterans Affairs etc..
I thought this country was supposed to be under a sequester? Mandatory spending cuts. Reducing the size of government. Saving the taxpayers.Reducing our debt.
Yet our Democratic politicians want to keep on spending money the government doesn't have. They say one thing to get the votes that keep their job, but do something entirely different.
And the people in David Scott's district fall for it every 6 years. When are they going to wake up?
I too remember eating the C Rations.... not my favorite meal while out in the field, but I didn't die or suffer any long term effects. And I must admit that I was in better physical shape back then. Between the physical activity and proper meals, my BMI was substantially lower back then.
Our brave fighting men and women in the Armed Forces are required to eat MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) on a regular basis while on deployment. These meals are not only nutritious, but have the necessary vitamins and calorie count to keep our troops in excellent shape. They are inexpensive and can be stored for months, if not years.
So this is what I propose...
All of the people that are receiving Food Stamps, EBT, SNAP, or any other food assistance should be issued these MRE's for 3 meals a day for the month for all the members of their family, instead of the current assistance they are receiving now. This would not only be better for them nutrition wise, but would be a enormous savings to the taxpayers of the country. This would also cut out the abuse of these programs that allow the participants to purchase items like ice cream, candy bars, potato chips, cakes, cupcakes and thousands of other items that have no nutritional value, costing taxpayers billions of dollars a year. Changing over to a program like this would also lower the medical costs for the people on these programs because they would be eating a balance diet. It would be a Win-Win for everyone. Better health for those on these programs and a cost savings for those of us who pay for them.
And for the ones on these programs that would rather not participate in a program like this, cut them off completely and tell them to fend for themselves.
There are job openings in the workplace. Maybe it's not the type of work or salary you want at the time, but it is a paycheck. It's just become easier for people to give up and live off the government and someone else money.
What's missing in today's economy is good old fashioned "Work Ethic and Pride"
Require these obese people who are able, not working, and are living on public and government assistance, to start walking through the county picking up trash and debris a couple hours a day, a couple of days a week. This would not only make the appearance of the county more eye pleasing, this would give these individuals the much needed exercise they need. This would also help lower their medical costs, which the taxpayers are paying for, and give the taxpayers a little payback for their tax dollar.
For all of those who are obese that would rather not participate in a program like this, start cutting off their funding.
The deeper port in Savannah won't be used for cruise ships. It's being dredged to allow more cargo ships into the port. This cargo is either trucked from Savannah or put on regular railroads, not high speed rail. The same thing in reverse from Hartsfield to Savannah.
And here's another question I have. If this "High Speed Rail" is going to make all these stops in these small towns that approve it, how is it going to be high speed?
The cost doesn't justify the means. It's approximately 250 miles between Hartsfield airport and Savannah GA. A 4 hour drive. High speed rail may cut 2 hours off of that time. The tax dollars that would be funded to pay for and fund the operation of a project of this size would be better used in other ways.
Amtrak is and has been for years in financial troubles and the ridership in their main corridors in the northeast are almost always full.
