So very sad! It is a good reminder that if we know someone in distress, we need to reach out, as we are able. Our prayers are going up for any family and friends; surely someone, somewhere is missing her. God bless the first responders, too.

One more thought - since apparently the suspension doesn't mean he is not currently certified, does anyone out there know exactly what it DOES entail, what exactly is different for a "suspended" certification, as opposed to one whose certification is NOT suspended? I'm a bit confused.....

I'm not sure this will be posted, as my last three have not, in spite of having nothing out-of-the-ordinary, nothing profane or inflammatory! Seems to go through and then never reappears! ; ) If I'm doing something offensive, I would love to know what, because all I'm trying to do is enter the discussion and I wouldn't want to offend! : ) Anyway I was thinking that it does seem to be a matter of semantics, but to me the bottom line for any public official should be "what is in the interest of the county," and to me, a person looking out for the best interests of the county would have waited until the next time, to run for office, so as not to put (another) cloud over Clayton County and the office of Sheriff.......

Just as my screenname indicates, about this too, I am sad but not surprised. I imagine Deal is also thinking ahead to the people he might alienate if he were to form a panel, and how Hill's supporters might remember this situation in 2014.It could cause quite a brouhaha. Hopefully some good will come from this situation, like more of the discerning voters showing up at the polls next time. To paraphrase Robert Kennedy, "on to the appeal and let's (Clayton County's best interests) win there."

It's a nice idea but I would be REALLY careful in buying or even reading library books. The New York Times, just this past week, ran an article about how bedbugs are infesting library books, hitchiking back to the library from homes that have them. So beware before you read or buy a library book. So glad I have an e-reader!

Well-said, Robert. You are very discerning and courageous to "speak the truth, in love" - to quote the Bible, another source that urges us to respect authority (see Romans 13). It's a whole mindset that has changed in recent years. I believe some people actually think, also, that they don't have to obey police. That's erroneous. They have rights, but among them is NOT the disobedience of police. The police are there for our own good and protection. They risk their lives daily for us, and look how they are rewarded, with an ambush, with bad attitudes, second-guessing by the same people who would be first in line to complain if they NEEDED the police. At any rate, most importantly, thank God the officer will be okay!

Those who criticize the sheriff for sending seven deputies to Charlotte are being very short-sighted, and not thinking things through fully. This is putting a positive light not only on the dept., which has so many fine people working there who don't deserve the clouds hanging over the department (many of the clouds, ironically, being brought upon the dept by the recently-re-elected Hill!). But it also puts the county - in general - in the spotlight, and I can see only good coming from this. I'm so proud!! As far as law enforcement needs, (1) seven deputies is not a lot to spare, when you break it into 21 shifts per week, count out time off, vacations etc. And (2) we all need to do our part to help maintain order when a bunch of political types congregate. ; ) Tee hee!

Great idea! Wish all counties would do this. Good job, Clayton County, in being proactive!
