Sinkhole shuts down part of I-285

JONESBORO — A sinkhole that opened up beneath two lanes of I-285 West between Old National Highway and Washington Road Wednesday should be repaired by mid-morning, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

GDOT spokesperson Natalie Dale said the cause of the sinkhole is not yet known. Crews have been on scene overnight making repairs.

Until repairs are finished, commuters on I-285 West should take Exit 62 (Old National Highway), then follow the signs to I-285 North. For those coming from I-85 South, be aware that the ramp to I-285 West is closed. Take Exit 69 (Old National Highway), then follow the signs to I-285 North.
