JONESBORO — For a brief time today, all Clayton County schools were placed on a precautionary Level 1 lockdown.
Level 1 indicates a possible threat to the exterior of the school. All exterior doors remain locked, students and staff must remain indoors, but movement is allowed within the school.
Clayton County Public Schools officials said in a statement the lockdown was due to a “community disturbance and reports of gunfire in the surrounding area.”
The district was not specific about the location of the disturbance.
The lockdown has since been lifted.
“We are pleased to share that all students and staff are safe and we do not anticipate any alterations to our dismissal day,” district officials said.
