JONESBORO — Clayton County Public Schools Class of 2019 valedictorians and salutatorians were honored May 6 during the Board of Education meeting.
Each received recognition for their accomplishments as well as a commendation certificate.
Superintendent Morcease Beasley had one more surprise up his sleeve for students.
“We want to make sure you have another tool you can use,” Beasley said.
To cheers and applause, Chief Technology Officer Rod Smith revealed a stack of brand-new laptops. Each valedictorian and salutatorian received the computer to aid them in their studies as they head off to college.
Beasley welcomed them to “the elite club.” He also thanked parents for their “unwavering support and sacrifices made as their children work to move forward to the next phase of their respective futures.”
The laptops were donated by ProLogic ITS LLC. This is the second year the district’s top performers were surprised with a laptop. Last April, the valedictorians and salutatorians were also rewarded with a laptop.
The school district is hosting Class of 2019 graduation ceremonies May 24-25 at the Georgia International Convention Center, 2000 Convention Concourse in College Park.
