MORROW — Clayton County police have taken a man into custody after a brief standoff following a domestic disturbance on Wood Valley Drive.

Interim Chief Mike Register said the man, who was not identified, has been charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children under the Family Violence Act.

Register said the man threatened his girlfriend with a weapon and police were called. Officers got the woman and a child out of the house. A police negotiator talked the man into surrendering, he said.

Neighbors, who didn’t want to give their names, said they were glad it ended without anyone getting hurt. They also reminded other neighbors “if people are going to cut up, we’re going to call the police.”
