JONESBORO — The Salvation Army Jonesboro Corps wants to help residents stay a little cooler this summer.

On Thursday starting at 9 a.m., the Salvation Army will give away 50 free electric fans to those in need at the Salvation Army of Clayton and Fayette Counties, 130 Spring St. in Jonesboro.

“Extreme high temperatures hit Atlanta unseasonably early this year — way ahead of the start of the summer season,“ according to Salvation Army officials. “Extreme temperatures can be deadly, but sometimes barriers, many of them financial, prevent individuals from being able to stay cool.“

Fans will be given out while supplies last. Residents are asked to bring their identification and proof of residency.
