LETTER: It’s time to hold elected officials accountable for avoidable crises

Dear Editor:

We are in the midst of a crisis of conscience created by the duplicity and corruption of our elected officials. They have kowtowed to the military industrial complex, Wall Street and the dirty energy barons to create a war against an ideology. That ideology was crafted in part by the coercion, influence and short-sightedness of neoliberal and colonial mindsets to foreign policy.

It is disgusting that they have created this crisis and are unwilling (a) to end it, and (b) to accept responsibility for their actions, and (c) to perform an altruistic and compassionate act of easing the suffering of those they’ve wronged and injured. They manufactured this war and unrest throughout the Middle East and turn a blind and ambivalent eye and heart to a human crisis. How disgusting is that? Very. And they did it in your name and on your dime.

I hope you, the electorate, the people will increase the pressure on these so-called leaders to do the right and decent thing for once, which is to provide the necessary support for receiving and integrating refugees in American communities. And to end 14 years of continuous war and bloodshed.
