Letter: Clayton County stands with victims of Orlando shooting

Michael Register

To the citizens of Clayton County,

This past Sunday morning at a nightclub in Orlando, Fla., a heinous crime was committed on 102 innocent people. At last report by the Orlando Sentinel, 49 people were killed, while 53 others were wounded. This incident is a sobering reminder of the cruelty and danger that exist in the world. Many people lost sons, daughters, sisters, brothers and other loved ones in this senseless tragedy. There are no words that can be said that will take away the hurt that has been inflicted, but every word of encouragement, every prayer, and every thought that we sent their way, I believe, tells all involved that we as a department, a community and as a nation stand behind them in this hour of need. I ask that every citizen of Clayton County join me and the police department in sending our condolences to the victims, the friends and family members that were left behind, as well as the city of Orlando. I also ask that each of you remember that the human spirit is extraordinary, and its strength and perseverance can overcome anything.

Stay safe and stay vigilant.

Michael Register

Clayton County Police Chief
