Outlook: Southern Crescent Stadium will be the venue for Thursday’s Region 4-AAAA opener for North Clayton and Eastside.

North Clayton comes into the game with on 0-3 record, having been outscored 105-7 in those three games. It won’t get easier this week, as Eastside enters the matchup as the No. 7 team in Class AAAA, according to the Georgia Sports Writers Association’s weekly poll.

Eastside holds wins over Newton, Alcovy and Ola by a combined score of 104-44. The Eagles have won seven games in each of the last four seasons. Junior quarterback Noah Cook has accounted for seven touchdowns already, throwing three to senior Jamari Brown. Senior running back Taylor Carter is averaging 100 yards rushing per game thus far. On defense, senior Jamari Brundage (12 tackles per game) is the centerpiece of a unit that has recorded 21 tackles for a loss and seven interceptions in just three games.

North Clayton has struggled to move the ball against teams from higher classifications, including in a game against Class AAAAA No. 1 Rome. The Eagles have been able to generate some big plays in the passing game, as quarterback Courtney Colbert and receiver Onuma Dieke have built a strong rapport.

Eastside has gotten the better of North Clayton in each of the last two seasons, winning both games by a combined score of 72-14.
