COLLEGE PARK — Since returning to his Alma Mater, North Clayton High, head coach Cap Burnett is 2-for-2 leading the program to the state playoffs.

The Eagles will look to make it three years in a row in 2018. The journey will begin Aug. 17 against fierce rivals Riverdale before a trip to Stockbridge to take on Woodland. North Clayton’s non-region schedule will wrap up on the road against two-time defending Class AAAAA state champions Rome High on Aug. 31.

Following a bye in Week 4, North Clayton will kick off Region 4-AAAA play at home against Eastside High before another bye in Week 6. The Eagles will then begin a crucial stretch of games against Hampton, Henry County High, Druid Hills and Luella. North Clayton’s final two games of the regular season are against state playoff teams from a season ago — Woodward Academy and Salem.

Strickland’s Spin: North Clayton will look to continue to build in the right direction this season under Burnett, who has rejuvenated the program in his first two seasons. A potential third straight trip to the state playoffs will come down to a four-game stretch in the middle of the season against Hampton, Henry County High, Druid Hills and Luella.
