JONESBORO — The All-Region 4-AAAAAA basketball teams were chosen over the weekend by the head coaches of each team in the region.

Girls

The No. 1 team in Class AAAAAA, the Lovejoy Lady Wildcats, came away with several individual awards. Sophomore Genesis Bryant was named Co-Player of the Year along with M.L. King’s Azhana Maxwell. Bryant is averaging 17 points per game this season for the Lady Wildcats.

Bryant was joined on the All-Region team by teammates Anaya Boyd, Kayla Brown and Lashanti Blunt. Boyd was a First Team selection, while Brown was named to the Second Team and Blunt was chosen as an Honorable Mention.

Lovejoy head coach Cedric King was named Coach of the Year. Lovejoy finished the regular season with a 24-1 record and a 15-1 mark in region play.

The Forest Park Lady Panthers saw Alana Denson and Sania Feagin be named to the First Team. Junior Sarah Matthews was chosen as an Honorable Mention. Mount Zion’s Khalela Hayes was a First Team selection, while Mayya Hopkins and Elise Harden were named Honorable Mentions.

Mundy’s Mill High’s Rita Igbokwe was named to the Second Team. Teammate Haley Miller was an Honorable Mention. Drew’s Tytianna Taylor and Imoni Compton and Jonesboro’s Tione Foster were also Honorable Mentions.

Boys

The All-Region boys team was headlined by Jonesboro High. Senior Jamari Smith was named Player of the Year after averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds per game during the regular season. Teammate Jamari Mosley was named to the First Team, while Miles Black earned Second Team honors. Brandon Walker was a Third Team selection.

Jonesboro head coach Dan Maehlman was named region Coach of the Year. He led the Cardinals to an 18-7 record and the No. 1 seed in the region tournament.

Drew High’s Kenneth Lee was named to the First Team. Teammate William Black was a Second Team selection, while Demetrius Rives was a Third Team choice.

Mundy’s Mill’s Jordan Black was named to the Second Team. Fellow Tiger Rayquan Brown was selected as an Honorable Mention. Forest Park’s Justin Eboigbe was a Second Team selection, and teammate Terrance Holland was chosen as an Honorable Mention.

Mount Zion’s Bryce Martin was selected to the Third Team. Teammates Kendall Norrington was an Honorable Mention.

Lovejoy’s Omari Callahan, Jamal Reynolds and William Evans were Honorable Mentions.
