Outlook: Morrow took a considerable step backwards in 2018 considering how strong they looked in 2017. The Mustangs finished a dismal 3-7 last year and, once again missed the playoffs bringing their drought to 20 years.
Jimmy Calloway is back for the Mustangs as a receiver and quarterback this year to lead the program. On top of Calloway, another 13 seniors in key roles are back for Morrow.
”The best thing about the guy is he’s just a regular kid,” Morrow head coach Jerome Weaks said.
“All of this publicity doesn’t even faze him. He’s just a great kid that loves football and goes out there having fun and having a good time and we just make sure we talk and don’t get too high or too low. Just go through the season work hard and make things happen.”
The rest of the offense is loaded with playmakers, including wide receiver Jabari Tucker, running back Kyree Miller and Dahmir Rivera also return to action on the offensive side.
Morrow’s defensive star this season will be Blas at linebacker, and he’ll have Master Scott and Jalen Williams in the secondary getting some playing time.
This will be Mustangs’ second season in Class AAAAAA action, but they’ll match up once more with several Clayton County teams.
”We’ve been working hard, and we have 14 seniors coming back,” Weaks said. “Of those I still have Jimmy who’s the best player in the county. I’ve got a line coming back and on defense I’ve got Owein Blas who’s a big-time player at linebacker for us, so we are expecting to make the playoffs this year.”
