Despite losses to Jonesboro and Starr’s Mill to the start the season, Mount Zion has managed to play their opponents close. However, that's not what they need to do this season after they struggled to win games in 2018.

This week, the region slate opens with a game against Stephenson. Both programs are coming off bye-weeks but the Jaguars have momentum from wins over Columbia and Southwest DeKalb.

Last year, Mount Zion was left with a 41-0 shutout at the hands of Stephenson. The Bulldogs are trying to return to the playoff scene after years of being at the back of the field but it's been close to 10 years since Mount Zion's last winning season.

A win against a top team like Stephenson could go a long way to settle the Bulldogs down and build another strong foundation.
